Default .avi files not running


i downloaded lot of torrents with .avi ext. when i tried to play them with windows media player, none of them cud be played.
someone plzz tell me how to play .avi files

did u hav codec pack installed for playing .avi ? coz they are almost divx or xvid codecs.. download any of these, links given below.

ACE mega codec pack
K-Lite codec pack

personally, i prefer the first one.

Download the K-Lite Codec Pack, here

The pack itself contains a host of utilities to play almost any file format. just use the one u like.the media player classic included is a very light and effective tool

yup, Klite is best...
Also u can get GSpot from www.doom9.org which tell you exact codec needed for any file u want to play...u just give file and it will show u codec and all info...

or u can use VLC,and forget about codecs,bcuz it has them built-in.
