Default Folder Locking


Hey guys i need a software that would lock or protect the folders i want to by a password.For suppose if i want to lock a games directory then it should be such that the game icons on the desktop should work perfectly i.e the game should work even though the root folder is locked.plzz help me out.

u shd try out Folder Lock, it works pretty well i think. or if u r using WinXP, try using NTFS...it has some of those capabilities, though i m not really sure about that.

i am usin WinXP Pro and i hav one partition NTFS but i cant lock the folders...

here is a nice trip that works on 98 me
it doesen't work on XP

go to dos prompt

and create a new directory:

md hello

then rename it as

ren hello alt+255

*note hold alt and u type 255
and press enter
that's all ur folder is locked

to open it do the reverse
njoy!!!

Just Google for "Hide Folders XP download" there is a software with the same name. I use it and it's nice....

If you don't find good sw then i have a suggestion

make a folder in %windowsfolder%system
and follow cooljeba's trick

Hey,
If UR Using XP On NTFS; Then Turn Off simple file Sharing (Tools>Folder Option>View>Use Simple File Sharing (Recomended) (Turn it Off)) Then Reboot.
Now U will find a Security tab in folder's Property Dialog Box (Similar to windows 2000).
Use it to set permission.
