Take the RAM chips out of their slots and reseat them securely. Do the same for HDD cables.

If you still get the error, remove one RAM chip (512 or 256) from the motherboard and boot the system. Run the game. If you still get the error(s), remove the RAM chip currently installed and reseat the old one. Run the game again. This would help figure out if one of your comp's memory chip is broken. Also, defrag your hard disk and clear out temp files using the windows disk cleaner (go to hard disk properties, click on disk cleanup button beside the pie chart.)

This is the way i normally troubleshoot. Let me know if it solves the problem.

i have done this checking of ram modules one by one already... i even ran the memtest to check if any of the modules was giving the prob... but ram seems to be ok.... how can defrag solve the prob, i have doubts but that too i keep doing regularly. well with windows i didnt require to defrag as i had to re-format and reinstall but this time its more than 6 months and i have defraged too... but still no joy
