If you are trying to run scandisk (chkdsk) on drive C, u wont be able to as the disk will be in use and hence cannot be unlocked which is must if it is to be scanned. Other drives should be checked. If it gives error while trying to scan other drivers then use this command chkdsk /x /f

for more options type chkdsk /?

The scandisk cannot scan the partition containing the Windows system files or the operating system as they're being used by the computer at that point of time. This includes your batch files, dlls, *.sys files, etc.
