Default HELP!.......... - 120 GB SATA - WHICH BRAND

hi.... I am replacing my 80 gb seagate barracuda PATA with a 120 gb sata hard drive. but i am really confused as to which brand should i go in for. There are a large number of variables such as buffer size, native sata support, performance, noise level etc. I really want a high performance drive (not SCSI though) within a budget of Rs 5000. Please help me in pin pointing the brand........seagate, maxtor, western digital, hitachi.........thanx

Sata by your computer is considered a SCSI drive (I have one myself). As for what drive you should get, I personally prefer seagate or maxtor, both have 120gb versions of their SATA that are almost identical, and they both have 3 year warranties.

Dear dear dear....looks like you have had a bad experience with Samsung. However a few clarifications are necessary here.
1>performance-newer drive are better from Samsung. However Maxtor drives have much lower processor usage than Samsung. Seagate here may be an option for low cost and availability(plus brand value) but their drives are no match to the ones above in performance.
2>noise level-Maxtor drives are really noisy.Samsung has brought in new drives which are pretty silent(would you consider 33dB noisy?)
3>heat-Maxtor drives get heated too soon.Consider some extra investment on a new fan.
4>buffer memory-I'm not sure about this but both Maxtor and Samsung probably have the same figures.
My advice:Go for a Samsung(Be quick!!! They are giving away a game with it.It's a limited offer)
