u can also use premier trial version thta has most advanced tools.

use virtual dub ... convert the dat into avis,, u get compressed size ( 2cds in 1)

- for fun try copy 1.dat+2.dat 3.dat . works for mpg , not sure for dat

vcd cutter works well , but it not a freeware, u will to get editing work for 7(!) seconds only...

Though you might have a little problem if have Movie Maker 2. That's because version 2 doesn't recognize DAT files. You'll have to convert them to WMV files first. The plus side - size of the files will be reduced. And you can add whatever music/sound you like.
