Legal Cracking?

Is it ok if i install a no cd patch or crack on a game installation if i own the original CDs????

i don't know that its legal or illegal, but i always do. cuz i don't want to insert the disk everytime when i want to play.

no its not illegal if u own the original copies but it is obviously illegal if its a borrowed cd

why is it illegal to discuss about it? cant we talk about cracks, keygens, no cd patches just for educational purposes...to know the code behind them n stuff?? right to knowledge?

It's absolutely legal, but how about making a backup and using it instaed of the original cd. We don't wan't our cd's to be damaged, do we?

Funny thing Guys, I posted the same question a few months Ago and all the replies were that this was illegal.
I also happened to get a lot of flak for posting such a thread..

I think the opinion of the people at this forum changes with time.

ECE0105, remember in ur post there were both sides of argument and ppl who said legal there have said the same here. that r their opinions... and the other ppl only insist on the rules laid and not to flame you. so dont get it bad!

No buddy.. ...so called NO CD CRACK and other types of cracks do not work on original game Cd softwares...

It will ONLY make ur game not run at all as the crack codes dont comply with original game codes.. Coz..(according to my observation).. I tried to change the version of DIABLO-II game(pirated copy of the game)... (using the original update option from the website).. but i was not able to play the game..

So my conclusion....(now its only my observations ppl ..plz dnt axe me.. )


Original game+illegal crack=DONT WORK.
Pirated game+legal crack (from game website)=DONT WORK.
Original game+original crack(for cheat codes or updating version for games)=WORKS fine
Pirated game+illegal crack=WORKS fine..

dere is no 'legal' crack which a game site provides y wud a company release its own crack???

and dere is no such thing that cracks dont work with originals ofcourse they work

u must hav tried sum rong crack, or the crack must not b compatible wid ur version

all games work wid cracks if u find the rite one

Hey no hard feelings man.. relax.. I was just referring to update version files and cheat codes (like the Electronic Arts ppl gave for NFS-II) to unlock various cars,tracks too..

Well the crack didnt work for me so i said in my last post tat..

No-CD patches don't work after the user patches (updates) the game becuz, the (in most cases) main EXE file is changed due to the update process, and hence the no-cd patch (written for the old EXE) doesn't work. For that u need a new no-cd patch for the updated EXE.

Isn't reverse engineering the exe illegal? Seeing that no-cd patches are reverse-engineered products, they must be ilegal. End of discussion.
The game developers WANT you to have the CD there for verification of the fact that you own the game (like those dongle things). With newer games, the game developers are trying harder and harder to prevent you from making a NOCD patch (StarFu**r, anyone). This must be reason enough to know that no-cd is illegal.

Not in every country. Reversing is legal in EU countries.
Even in USA, various courts have opined that reverse engineering is not, per se, illegal (for example, in Sega v. Accolade).
