.wmv->??
Well....this is the condition....
* i need to write a video (WHICH I RECORED MYSELF IN MY SONY CAM) to a cd
* since there was no option in my sony utilities to copy to hard-drive ..i had to run the tape and record using windows movie maker (XP)..
* windows moviemaker saved the file in .wmv format.
* I want to write the cd , such that it supports universal reading facility.
* i copied all the video.wmv files (7 in total) into a cd and tried it in a cd and dvd player(CONNECTED TO A TV)..BUT IT SHOWED DISK ERROR or DEDECTED A BLANK CD.
* so.....i changes the cd..BUT THE SAME PROBLEM lives again..
* so....should i convert the .wmv files into other files??if so please tell me how..OR can create a vcd from a .wmv file??..if so..HOW?
...??

Hi Rumaxsuriya,
Welcome to the forum
regarding ur problem
u need to burn the cd as a video cd rather than as a data cd..
nero will burn ur .wmv as .dat default extension of the VCD.
Then u will be able to play it
..:: peace ::..

Hey dude -
You say that WMV files are huge? It's a compression format, which means that it will make the files smaller. How can they be huge?
DAT files are more heavier than WMV files.
And get this - QCD 4.5 and Winamp 5 can play WMV files.

You think I don't know that? I'm a DJ, for crying out loud! What I meant to say was that Rock's my primary passion, but I also listen to Eminem and Avril.
So you want to talk about language, eh? Well then, I won't be much of a gentleman if I didn't tell you that arent is written as aren't.
Well, that said, here's the answer to FunkyB's query -
For Windows Media™ codecs 7.0 and lower, you can use Nero's in-built encoder to directly convert WMV files to MPEG and burn them to VCD's. For Windows Media™ 9 Series, you'll need an encoder like WinAvi ( http://www.winavi.com/).

I used Nero Ultra 6 to create a VCD from a wmv file
The conversion from (.WMV--VCD)took a very long time (say 40 mins for 50 mins movie)(it said ENCODING THE FILE >>PLEASE WAIT)
Also i saw the SVCD option available in the nero video menu
first of all
**WHAT IS SVCD?What is the difference between VCD and SVCD?
**VCD plays automatically in DVD player/cd player, but if we insert it into a system, we have to manually open the MPEGAV folder in the VCD and play the required .dat file (say AVSEQ01.DAT)
How to create a autorun file such that the vcd automatiaclly plays in both DVD/VCD/CD players and also in computer

to autorun vcd's etc ... u have to set "autoplay cd's" option in ur media player
when u insert the cd ... it'll ask u what u wanna do with it
all this is in windows XP ofcourse ...
when u have multiple media players ... it gives a list on cd insertion and u can choose what u wanna do
for what is svcd etc see here

i just wanna make a VCD which autoplays in any dvd/vcd/cd player and any computer irrespective of the configuraion .. like even with out windows media player( like adding a standalone media player into the VCD
Anyway thanks RANVEN
but this is my real problem

Solution
All you need to do is just burn a VCD using Nero Burning Rom.While adding files it will ask you for encoding.Say yes as the option.Even if nothing is asked just continue burning.Nero will encode the files if necessary.
Encoding of files takes a lot of time,so just go and watch a movie while the encoding is being done OR lave the computer switched on for overnight.(2nd is the better option). After writing the CD,it will be compatiable on all VCD/DVD players.
