Default PC runs slower than Snail

Hey Geeks,
My Pc Running slower than a snail. Some time to open a MS word it takes around 10-15 sec.
I tried PC booster , Tuneup utilities 2006, but they dint help me that much,
While burning a CD I can’t listen a music r c any video,
I know that while burning PC takes a lot of source,
But one of the my friend got the almost same configuration as I have n he can saw a any video while burning
I got P-IV, 3.0Gz, 256 MB n 915 GAV motherbrd.
My frnd got P-IV, 2.4Gz, 256 MB n 845 Motherbrd.
Is His motherbrd is better than me? ( Motherbrd makes any different in PC performance?)

Thanx

your mtherboard is certainly better

1.r u running too many programs? u ll answer dat u r nt doing so. but may be programs like winzip, google talk, yahoo msgr, winamp .... etc. are automatically starting up with windows. look at ur system tray (far right of ur taskbar, left of windows time) and see how many icons r there.. if there r too many then u ll know that those programs hav started wid windows. remove those programs from windows startup. run>msconfig.

2.viruses may slow down ur pc. when is the last time u scanned the whole system? by whole system i mean all drives. i assume u r using some good antivirus already

3.do u defragment your hard disk? u shud do dat.

4.disable themes. screensavers 2 speed up pc 2 sum xtent

Download HijackThis and unzip it to dedicated folder (like C:\HijackThisFolder\hijackthis.exe).
Run it and click the button Do a System scan and save log file. HijackThis will perform a scan and gives you a log. Post its complete contents here.

Hi,
The log looks clean! Its better to run Disk Defragmenter to defrag the disk drives. Also, you can follow some system optimizing stpes provided here.

i haf a gut feeling that DMA is disabled on ur system, both for hdd as well as cdrw. i'd read somewhere that even tho the device manager shows that dma is enabled, it is not so. there is a reg key that has to be edited to fully enable it.

also, enable 32-bit i/o from bios (if there is any option like this). make sure u haf installed the latest drivers for the ide controller, enable write caching. better completly uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

also disable these progs and try again:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE
C:\WINNT\System32\WBEM\WinMgmt.exe
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
C:\Program Files\inKline Global\PC Booster\pcbooster.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\ctfmon.exe
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe
C:\Program Files\Real\RealOne Player\RealPlay.exe
C:\Program Files\Kazaa Lite K++\KazaaLite.kpp

hi bholu
i have almost same configuration as urs bought about 10 days ago ,915 GAV board and i am having same problem as yours. i have formatted my computer 4 times within these 10 days and i have only 15 services running, still the pc is very slow. But i have found one thing that it becomes slow only after u install the graphic driver provided in the desktop board CD.
i also think we need sata harddisk for better performance and there must me some settings to be adjusted in bios.

Please help all geeks lol

but this config is a decent one and should run widout any problems...at least it shouldn't run that slow as they are mentioning!

i'll search my lappy if i've saved that reg editing technique to enable dma. i dunno if 915 series supports intel app accelerator. u can try installing that. also be sure to install the chipset drivers before installing any other drivers.

Default Online help

You can check out http://www.pcpitstop.com

You can get your PC benchmarked there too. I got a score of 937 for my laptop. Not to stray from the topic, that site holds some hope for you.

Plus go to your computer manuf's site to get the latest drivers for the chipset, etc.
