Default prob in sharing files on net....

hi all

two comps at my place are connected to the same hub.ping is working fine bet them.
but when i try to access the shared files of the other comp it asks me for the password even though there's none.

both have win xp+sp2. avast+ spybot.
windows internal firewall disabled
ips are 172.1.36.38 and 172.1.36.39
gateway and DNS of the settings are same.

presently i'm sharing files using DC++ but it still is a pain in the ar**.

is there a sftware using which file sharing can be done (with good speed)

both have onboard lan (100Mbps).

is ther a way to rectify this prob.....

TIA

A good software to transfer files between two computers is PC-Mac-File Share Lite... The Lite version is free but has a file size limit (If I remember correctly, 10MB).

BTW, to access files on LAN in WinXP, you need to create an account with the other computer's username-password combination... This is because WinXP uses User-level sharing rights unlike Win98 which allowed simple Folder-based sharing.

Also, please confirm if you are using WinXP Home or WinXP Pro
