Default Ram not working???


I have 256mb ram installed,but for few days i was experiencing slow downs and when checked my settings from my comp,it showed only 128mb ram on my pc!I opened my cabinet and re-installed both ram-chips(128*2),but still it shows only 128mb ram! what shld i do?

Maybe u r memory slot is malfunctioning...try changing memory sticks to some other slot. test it

Also test the memory with

interestingly i re-installed ram and re-booted it showed 256mb ram,then now when i re-booted it again it showed 128mb ram? wats happening?

The best thing u can do to check the problem is this.....

Insert ur RAM on some other PC (make sure that da speed matches) & see whether it is detected....If it gets detected then nothings wrong with the RAM module...

Alternatively, get some other RAM module from a friends PC & try it on ur mobo (again make sure that the speed matches)......If it gets detected, then u can rule out that ur memory slot is working perfectly....

And unfortunately, if both these things fail......time to take it to da doc....

I had done this thing a couple of years back & was successful in detecting a faulty memory slot...

i found it it was a faulty chip(128mb),the slots are fine!
