Default Files Lost

I used to leave my system on when i leave my office.
This morning when i cam back and loged in to my account i found that everything was lost (all dektop setting, Desktop files, My documents, etc)
I looked in the event viewer and the following is what i got.

Windows saved user VIDEO\Administrator registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have importany files in my doccuments . I searched entire c drive but i cant find them, even documents and setting/administrator/desktop does not contain anything. Kindly help me

I think you are using windows xp or windows xp sp1.
So, install windows xp sp2 or atleast install autopatcher.
That error will be rectified. You can assure that by watch eventlog.

I am using Winxp SP2. Automatic Update on.

@ishaan : to get back the icons is not what i asked, what i mean is my files are lost. (Project Files)
I know i should have backed it up, yeah i backed up some of the files but those that were lost were my newly downloaded documents. its impossible to get them again since i took a whole 2 days of searching.

Have you tried a Data Recovery tool such as PC File Inspector?
