Open regedit and nevigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management

In right-side pane, create a new DWORD value named:

ClearPageFileAtShutdown and set it value to 1.

ENJOY!!!!!

can someone tell me how clearing the page file improves performance

or for what is it exactly done !!!

as i see it , there no noticible difference when i did it .

and moreover is it not a uncessary read-rite operation having its toll on the harddisk ???

disabling 'clear pagefile on shutdown' reduces ur shutdown time.
(clearing pagefile at shutdown is ok if u r security conscious)

Info from Tune XP software's documentation:

CLEAR PAGEFILE ON SHUTDOWN - No recommendation

This tweak makes Windows clear the pagefile on shutdown. Will make shutdown slower, but might make bootup and paging a bit faster (marginally)

Also, as anandk says, if you are security conscious and dont want to leaves traces of something that was in the memory, you might want to do this...

it increases the boot time... it's just for privacy... or security one might call it...
