Press Shift and right click on the file, then select "Open With..." option. Select correct application (in your case, Winamp) and place a check under the option "Always use the selected application to open this kind of file" and press OK...

This will work in Win 9x. In Win2k/XP, it will work if you have administrative priviledges...

If u are not using xp, then to make the open with dialog appear again, hold the shift key while rightclicking the file. Select the app you want to open the file.
In XP, you will have either the "open with" or Open entry always.
You could also goto "Control panel->folder options->File types" to change the default app and icon.

Download managers will change the extension of the file as soon as it completes the download and verifies that no part is corrupted. If u are sure that the file is downloaded completely, then simply change the extension of the file to mp3 or whatever music format you downloaded.

The tip submitted by siriusb should work with WinXP also...

Arun

PS: Always backup your registry before trying something you are not sure of.

Common registry editing programs like RegSupreme too can do it..
http://www.macecraft.com/
It has a "Open with menu" tab where all applications are listed, you just choose what you want and remove them.
