Default Can't starts new applications

I am a very satisfied customer of Digit from past 1 year. The Q&A section is very important for me because I am a computer professional. I have a HCL ezee Bee PC with pentium IV 2.4 GHz cpu with 845 chipset motherboard and 632 mb of ram. I also have BSNL broadband connection. Recently I am facing a problem. While the connection is on several times the applications wich are open is stops working, the browser stops and also I could not able to open any new applications. But after disconnecting the connection and switch off the modem all applications are running fine. Could you suggest any solution for this problem.

Use the task manager to monitor the system/cpu usage. If you find that it becomes 100% while connected, you might be having a virus/spyware. Take a look at the startup programs (using msconfig) and post a list here...

Also post list of tools such as Antivirus, Antispyware that you are using.

You can safely remove the following:
igfxtray, hkcmd - graphics display tray icons
jusched - Real Player Update Checker
Microsoft Office, Adobe Gamma Loader - Not needed IMHO

gpgs2wnd - is that hpgs2wnd? That is HP Share to web which you can also disable.

regsvr32 /s mqrt: Check http://greatis.com/appdata/a/r/regsv...20mqrt.dll.htm to see if you need it (I doubt it)

So far, I see no instance of Virus/spyware to cause problem... Have you got drivers all properly installed? And is your XP patched up to date?

Arun

PS: You havent yet mentioned your Security software...

EDIT: Why do I get **** wrote when I use quote button?

I have heard that if ur pc is infected and if u do system restore. That the files which r infected the pc will not put them but will remove them. Must one of ur imp. file must have been removed.

Your pc can be infected. I think. Last month my pc was infected. When i tried to run Norton even it refused to run. So i formatted my HDD and installed a fresh copy of Xp and now everything working. Net was not working. If worked when it showed that it is connected (Dialing xxxxxx) it jst hanged. I had to restart my pc. Have u scanned ur pc?

My suggestion:- Install a fresh copy of Windows XP

What about the Firewall? Every system with broadband connection must have one... If you dont, I recommend ZoneAlarm and Kerio...

Try and get your XP patched up with the Autopatcher September edition on this month's Digit DVD. (Also available on Chip CD if you dont have a DVD Reader)
