A gateway is a system to connect different networks. SMS gateway would connect your sms server to your interface and manages it. Don't know anything else. Will try to get some info.

As i know that, it is in the Switch. cuz the sms centre number is the gateway no for a particular Network which is [that cntr num] situated in the switch. and that switch act as a gatway to connect other networks. it is defined at Exchange.
