How to change computer name??

Can anyone tell me how to change my computer name....ie the name which u register windows with during setup...or is it possible????

Right click on My Computer and go to Properties. Go to tab "Computer Name" and press "Change" button to change it. This will work in Win XP if you log in with administrative privileges. In Win98, if similar option is not available, you can go to Network Neighbourhood and right click to select properties and change it there...

oops ........ but that doesnt change the name which windows was originally registered to

for eg .... wen u right click my comp in 98 se u get registered to FIRST NAME and below that COMPANY NAME

i want that to be changed how can i do that without reinstalling the os.

Open regedit and nevigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

In right-side pane, u'll see 2 keys:

RegisteredOrganization
RegisteredOwner

U can change their values to change the name, which u gave during Setup!

PS: This is for Windows XP, In windows 98 simply nevigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
