Default WMP 10 Installation blues...

I have been trying to install WMP 10 since the past 1 month...whenever I run the installer file...the installation begins, & then after extracting a few files, I get a new WMP 10 window which says the following:

" A more recent version of Windows Media Player is already installed.
A more recent version of Windows Media Player is already running on your computer. Setup cannot continue."

This happens inspite of the fact that I have already un-installed WMP 9 frm my system. There r a few files of WMP 9 which still exist in my "Program Files" folder.....And I can NOT delete these files manually....I get an error report which says that the files cannot be deleted....

What do I do next? Someone please HELP!!

Thanks a lot in advance...

Search and optimise you registry for invalid entries etc.
You can use systemmechanic or regcleaner.
Try this first.

Try XP Lite and completely remove WMP 9.

Then install version 10
