Future of Search

I just had a chance to read the 'Future of Search' article of Digit, which concluded as:

It's when SEO vanishes that we'll know that the ultimate search engine has arrived. Until then - Happy googling

Sure, everyone in the world has changed their web applications to fit Google’s vision of a perfect world, but in my opinion, 'WEB-SEARCH' can't get any better. Infact, It's getting a bit worse with the recent google algo updates - relevancy is slowly fading - Google Search isn't as good as it was a year back, or perhaps it could be due to the competition by Yahoo and MSN?

However, if we (users as well as the players) concentrate on usability rather than availability of the billions of pages of information available, life would be much easier. For Instance, I recently came across a new concept in searching, a nice (and probably 'rare') websearch client that lets you try 1-2-3-4+ searches easily and instantly whereas you wouldn't bother searching twice at any traditional search engine currently!

I searched for: business week, cyprus, alienware (and many other generic keyword) in google, I get the best possible, relevant results. I'm intrigued to know what else would the 'ultimate search engine' can show?

Sure, there's a shitload of junk in those '8+ billion page' index of google and SEO is gone bad, but that is for non-generic and broader terms, where there's a great chance for Black Hat SEO's to manipulate. There're flipsides of everything, but one must know the difference between Good SEO and Bad SEO.

Hence, usability of information is prioir to availability, after relevancy.
