I recently brought a dual layer DVD 9 format Harry Potter DVD with 3+1 movies, although my LITE-ON DVD ROM JLMS XJHD 166S plays all DVDs , but can't play this one. Digit has always referred this and now i face this. All SONY drives play this. What to do ???

According to the Nero info tool this Lite-on 16X DVD ROM can read all typeas of single layered DVDs, DVD+R DL but not DVD-R DL. The DVD movie was the latter one.

All I want to know
is it always this way or my drive has gone faulty.(People with Lite-on DVD drives please reply)

why should digit always refer to Lite-on over Sony for DVD Drives without adequate tasting. We got the habit of depending on Digit, But not any more, after this !!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the DVD being detected by the drive? Or u just can't play it in any DVD playing app?

no it depends on the firmware of ur drive
if u want u can try upgrading ur firmware but it is very risky and if done wrong it can make ur drive useless

i used nero info tool to check which format(s) i t supports and which are not suppported. Now according to the Nero info tool this Lite-on 16X DVD ROM can read all types of single layered DVDs, DVD+R DL but not DVD-R DL.

The DVD movie was the latter one. As in the disc type nero showed it as dual layered, but as it was not read by the ROM it must have been, DVD-R DL.

The bottomline the Lite-on Drive doesnot support DVD-R DL , SONY drive does. And Digit still insists on lite-on above SONY.The question is WHY ??????????????????????????????????
