Default CD Drive icon disappears!!!

Hi all,

My friend is having one peculiar problem . His CD drive icon gets disappears
some times.
I checked with my CD drive and also with others but same problem encounters.
He has Dual OSes but the same problem found in both OSes.

Some Times it detect and some times it doesn't.

So i guess CD Drive might not be in problem .

Is it a problem due to BIOS or Motherboard or something else ?

so please tell me what might be the problem and how to solve it .

Thanks

There may be a few reasons for such happenings:

1. Loose connections at CD-ROM drive's or MB's end(Data cable or Power cable)
2. Faulty Data Cable.
3. Faulty IDE slot.
4. Faulty CD-ROM drive.
5. Faulty Motherboard.

Check for the above stated in problems in the order given.
Firstly tighten the data cord and the power cord at both the ends. If this does not solves the prob then try to use another data cable. Thirdly, connect the the data cable to the second IDE slot. Next, plug-in somebody else' CD-ROM and see if its functioning; if it is then ur CD drive is faulty. If this too doesn't help, then try out the last step of plugging ur drive into ur friend's PC and checkin whether its running...if it is, then probably there's a prob with ur MB as u have already checked ur IDE ports earlier(in step3).

PLEASE REMEMBER:To Check whether the drive functioning correctly at every step.

Hope this will solve ur prob. You'll need a gud frend who will trust u in doin all this.

P.S. All this was in referrence to your friend i.e. taking YOU as the victim of a Faulty CD-ROM drive so act accordingly. And do let me know if it still has a prob after doin all this.
