Default Computer Shuts without Warning

My PC Shuts down automatically without warning. On restarting there is no warning that whether it was sue to heating or not.

What may be the possible reasons for shutting down automatically without warning?

My PC Config: 2.4GHz P4 , Intel 845GVSR MObo with 64MB Onboard AGP, Realtek AC97 Onboard Audio, 80GB SATA Hdd with Windows XP Pro.

without warning in the sense, it just suddenly says "windows is shutting down" huh?. after such an incident, maybe you could go into the CMOS and check the CPU and mobo temperatures.....the shutdown temperatures are usually defined here. if that cause is ruled out, then it might be a virus. as soon as you start up your computer, go to start->run and type shutdown-a and press enter. this will disable software level shut down...now you could search your computer for unwanted active processes or run a virus scanner.

Do one thing!
Goto System Properties ( Start -> Run and type: sysdm.cpl ).

Now goto Advanced tab and under Startup & Recovery section click on Settings button.

And uncheck the option Automatically Restart in System Failure section.

Now if ur system faces ne ERROR, it'll show u BSOD giving u some information about the problem in stead of automatic restart.

Then u'll be able to know the reason and can post here the ERROR message!

does it just shut down or shutdown and restart without warning? hard ware problems such as overheating, problematic smps or ram can cause this. monitor temperature to verify overheating. send smps and ram for testing...

other reasons can also be harddisk related, etc...

It shuts down only. No restart and it just keeps on for only half an hour. After half hour of working it automatically powers off - does not let Windows XP Shut down and creates mess.
