Lots of Pops & Clicks

I'm using Winamp 5.092 for playing MP3 files in my Realtek AC'97 onboard sound (with latest driver). And there are quite lots of pops and clicks while listening to most of the tracks. I've changes most of the preference settings to time critical, but this did not help. This problem is also present in other players like Windows Media Player 9.0. I found my problem very distracting. What do I do now? Please help.

update ur sound drivers that should do it and also get newer versions of winamp and windows media player

# are you sure your mp3s are perfect ? if all players give such sound .. then there could be a problem in mp3 streaming
# check electrical connection of speakers .. loose connxn leads to most of clicks and scratch sounds in speakers. also check the speaker jack inserted behind the comp .. could be a loose connxn there.
# preferably check the sound with another speaker.
