Default Shutdown Woes!!!

Hey all,

I have a computer with the following config:

---------------------------------------------------------
AMD Athlon64 2800+
512MB DDR333 RAM
K8N Motherboard
GeForce4MX
Samsung 80G HDD (SATA)
Seagate 20G HDD (7K RPM)
Microsoft Keyboard&Mouse
Samsung 17"
Windows XP SP2
APC UPS (Software loaded on comp)
Airtel ADSL conn
---------------------------------------------------------

Well, the problem is that recently whenever ive started shutting down/hibernating, the computer goes uptil "Saving your settings" and then just freezes! Ive tried taking advice from some sad@$$ forums online but they dont have a clue. This month i restarted buying DIGIT and i know how tech-savvy its subscribers are... Well, I really hope someone can suggest a remedy..Btw, even the APC UPS s/w initializes the hibernation process but doesnt get beyond the "saving your settings"!

Also, recently when i disconnect from the net (right-click in sys tray conns icon), it the connections just freezes and i cannot reconnect either!

Regs,
Rahul

ok anyways..

visit these pages, one of them should help you
http://www.theeldergeek.com/shutdown_issues_in_xp.htm
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307274
Google Search

you can also try this:
Quote:
Select Start->Run,
Type "gpedit.msc", and press Enter.
Navigate the left pane to Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options.
In the right pane, scroll to Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile.
If the option is enabled, double-click it,
select Disabled, and click OK. (You may not have this option on your system.)
