Default Problems with VGA

i am using a pentium 4 1.7 GHZ computer with 256 mb ram , 32 mb shared memory and sis 650 chipset with a microtek 17" monitor which supports upto 1280x1024 resolution at 60 hz. i recently found out the current VGA drivers were not directx 9 compliant. so i downlaoded the latest chipset drivers from sis. the problem is that now i cannot increase the resolution to 1280x1024. it is stuck at 1024x768 at 75 hz whwn my supports that resolution at 85 hz. what should i do??.should i revert back to the old drivers which work fine???.please help

Default

a refesh rate of below 75Hz does strain ur eyes....so why go for higher resolution and low refresh rate.....U maybe comfortable using it. See if there is any option which hides unsupported modes. uncheck it then u will be able to select custom resolution and refresh rate... But i think it is safe to work within supported modes.
