Default samsung DVD writer problem

I have a brand new assembled PC(2 months old) .The problem is that my 8x DVD writer (Samsung TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552U) does not read or write in speeds above 2.4x. When I reinstalled XP it read/wrote in 8x for a week but after that the same thing happens (2.4x) .I have dma enabled. I use Nero, DVD decrypter and Alcohol 120 all of them do not go beyond speeds of 2.4x after that time. Is this due to installing of corrupt software or something because it works perfectly in the beginning. I have an AMD 3000+, Asus K8S-MX (mobo), 512mb ram, Nvidia 6200 AGP card running Win XP Pro + sp2.I have reinstalled twice due to this and the same thing happens .Im 15 Please help.

Its the DVD media that matters. Ur DVD must not b supporting more then 2.4x. Try using other DVD media like SOny, Moserbear etc.

Try it on a friend's PC. See if the problem persists.
