copying/burning a DVD on to a DVD, quality loss??? yes/no??

hi,

i dont really know if this is a very basic question or its relevant to be asked here. suppose, i have a movie DVD original and say its in a DVD9 format. I hope that is the maximum quality or so... and i rip it on to a 4.7 GB dvd. ofcourse there wil be some quality loss during the process of ripping.

But, what i need to know is, I hav my friend's wedding in another month and the ppl for video coverage say, they wud hav the coverage on 3 DVDs(with each DVD covering 2 hrs of the function). I thought of taking multiple copies myself using a DVD writer. But, they say, Burning a DVD on to another DVD (video) wud result in quality loss

i cudnt beleive wat they say... suppose they get me 4.7GB DVD video, then how wud there be quality loss if i burn them to a 4.7GB DVD??? i wonder it.. they say, their writer price is alone 48k and that the wires used to copy to the DVD from the source are crucial... Is this true? if so, if we copy something to cd and back to the comp, there must be a loss of quality

He calls it technically, "Rendering on to a DVD" instead of "burning on to a DVD"... does such term exist in relevance to a DVD??? if so, i am really ignorant abt it... i am so concerned coz, i hav Rs: 300 charged for every hour on the extra DVD... so for 3 DVDs(6 hrs) i am to be charged a 1800 Rs...

which seems idiotic to me instead of burning it in minutes...

I really dont thik you would loose any quality if u make a one to one copy! I mean you are not transcoding right? Then why should you loose quality?!

You don't lose any quality unless you encode. Go ahead and make a copy yourself. Trust me, there won't be any loss in quality/

Hi legolas ,

These two lines will clean your mind

First ,

If u encode it it then the whole files is processod and there will be quality loss as each frame will be processed

Second ,

If u do just copy and paste then there wil be no encoding and the byte to byte data will be copied ...no any processing of frames and nothing
only the duplication of data

so go for just ditto copying it and dont encode it

Go ahead there is no quality loss if you make one to one copy.

Here by quality loss means some errors in copying..
So if this were the case then no body would be able to make copies of softwares as there the integrity of data there is very critical...

absolutely, he tried to fool me around i think!

they tried to utilize the ignorance with ppl who r not exposed tat good to computers.. My parents!!! thk god i was there... hehe!
