Default File Sharing??

I have 2 PCs in my home, 1 with windows 2003 and 2nd one with XP professional.

They are connected through LAN and a HUB.

Both are under the same workgroup "MSHOME".

Now, here is my problem, I formatted the 2nd PC and reinstalled XP in it. And now the file sharing is not working while it was working fine before the format, am I missing something?

PS: I am not good at networking, my brother had setup the network last time but since he is out of station I am helpless....

Please guide me...

Check your workgroup of formatted pc
My computer>>properties>>computer name
Make it MSHOME if it is not.

Share your drives by right clicking them & go to sharing & enable it.

If still you cant get it check ip address of your pc
goto network connection from control panel>>properties>>tcp/ip>>properties
either make it automatic or manually set them in both pc say
192.168.0.1 & 192.168.0.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0 in both
leave the gateway & DNS

restart now i think your problem might be solved

Set the IP of which PC? The one with windows 2003 or the one with XP?

If above solution except that to IP change does not work then change IP of both pc.
Ethier set both to automatic mode or configure both manually as said above
for 1st pc say IP:192.168.0.1
subnet mask:255.255.255.0

for second pc IP:192.168.0.2
subnet mask:255.255.255.0

if you configure them automatically then go to cmd & type"ipconfig" it will show the details of ip subnet mask etc
Suppose for win xp pc it shows 192.168.32.53 then go to other pc & in run type "ping 192.168.32.53" if it shows reply from pc then you are done.
follow same procedure for other one also

No it is not 127.0.0.1

To check ip address of your computer read my above post i have mentioned it.

ok, I ahve typed the IPCONFIG command in the command prompt, it showed me the following:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Autoconfiguration IP Address: 156.222.5.210
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default gateway:

It shows the Subnet mask as 255.255.0.0 but as u said the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0, so should I go for 255.255.0.0 or 255.255.255.0?

Thanx
