well if u r not a gamer then dis is a very decent rig.and i guess it will come around 35k or may b 2-3 more.go for a 400Mhz ram Kingston,Corsair,Transcend.Intel original 915 is very gud for u but if u want a mobo wid sum more features den u can go for a Asus 915 mobo.Samsung MB 17'' Monitor is de best in de market as far as i kno and which will come around 7k.Wat bout de UPS?u can go for a numeric 600VA UPS which will come around 2k and its quite gud.

get the 64 bit 3ghz proccy.even though u dont need 64 bit for movies and music stuff the diff. of 200 between 32 bit and 64 bit means that the 64 bit processor is a better bet.also get a samsung 793mb monitor.cabinet a vip cabinet.keyboard/mouse logitech spill proof.

get teh new 64bit semprons and 512MB RAM with a 754 board,if u arent going to game with that machine....real world performance of these chips comes close to the A64s. Since its primarily for movies/music, I would suggest using the saved money for taking a quality sound card, monitor and speaker system !

regarding printer cum scanner. I m using a HP PSC 1315. and it is quite good. it has got a decent speed and has got photo layering technology. It has also got picbridge 4 directly printing frm a digicam. It is sensibly priced at around 4k. The only disadvantage is it doesnt have the fax option.

In fact the gaming is not so bad with semprons man....
It is afterall renamed Athlon xp bartons which gave those P4 s a hard time for their money.... Well now with64 bit extension.... so better memory management...better performance..
I agree the performance is nowhere near A64 but muuuuuuuuuuch better nd cheaper than Celerons

Preety cool Config. but why 1 GB of RAM for just playing music and movies, insted go for 120GB or 160 GB HDD so that you can store more movies and music.

And you can go for a better TV-Tuner card so that you can straight away record Songs and movies on the computer !!!

in that case, this config is enough for u

Pentium 4 2.66 GHz, LGA 775
Intel 915GAG motherboard
GeForce 6600LE or 6200 non ultra without Turbocache, as it will give U WMV HD & Purevideo acceleration, PCI-E with 128 MB RAM
2X256 MB DDR400, kingston ValueRAM is good enough
160 GB Samsung SATA if u plan to store movies & TV shows on it, 80 GB if u don't
Pinnacle PCTV Stereo TV Tuner card
Logitech Internet pro desktop, wireless is a must
Lite-On DVD writer for storing & sharing DVDs, but a combo drive will also be good if DVD burning is not required
if U have money left, 17" Samsung 710N LCD monitor or incase tight on budget then Samsung 793MB
Frontech or Antec roomy cabinet
Creative iTrigue 3300 speakers for 2.1 channel or Gigaworks for 5.1 channel, your choice

plz see again, I gave him an option to buy a GeForce 6200 with no turbocache & 128 MB Memory, the reason, purevideo, something very usefull for HTPC tasks

if he clerifies that he won't be playing HD Content then the onboard gfx is enough for him

i meant the resolution of the Video file, not your desktop resolution

Usually HD Videos come in different resolution like quicktime supports 480p, 720p &1080p

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/hdgal...endations.html

& For WMV HD the requirments are

http://www.ulead.com/msp/faq_wmvhd.htm#2

u can use gspot to find the video resolution

although there is one thing, HD contents are rare, one will hardly download such big files in India, & HD DVD are yet to come, so I buy something now that U won't be able to use for a long time

even if u go for onboard graphics with 512 MB RAM, that will be neough as the graphics chip will share memory, so even a Geforce 6200 with 64 MB RAM is enough & recomended, but without Turbocache, that is a useless feature
