Default SSH Client Problem

Well i have to use an SSH client to enable a tunneling from my computer to a remote computer and then only i can access the internet.
So all the web based applications of mine are based on the weakest link the SSH client.
It so happens that the SSH client gets stuck/hangs after sometime (maybe an hour or 5 mins, never predictable)
I am using Windows Xp Professonal Edition.
Can u tell me a way in which i can allocate more resources to the SSH client or any other method so that the client doesnt hang.
I tried reinstalling it but to no avail
Even better do u know any SSH clients which are decent enough and wont hang, right now i am using putty.
Thanks
