Shutting down

I have a P3 800Mhz,Win98se and WinXP system.
In win98se , whenever I try to shut it down the it hangs and "Windows is shutting down" screen remains on it.

Any idea to fix the problem???

this problem is typical to Windows 98 Second Edition.

for a solution to your problem: Download patch from Microsoft website

yes the patch shud wrk. My frnd had same prob

Tried but didn't work.
Rebooted in Safe mode ran the program but still the problem persisted.
Reinstalled oS as well. Shutting down wasn't any prob for 2to 3 days afterwards again the problem started.
Any idea???
