Monitor issues

Something that's troubling me...

I have a 15" HCL HCM580M monitor. It's four year old. Lately, from the past six months or so... I've seen that the performance of my monitor has been slowly, but surely, degrading. Currently, it isn't half as bright, as it used to be, even when I've the brightness-level bar go to the limit. The picture quality isn't upto the mark as well. But there's no flickering of the screen when the PC is on.
I also would like to point out the fact that the apartment, where I stay, experiences frequent voltage fluctuations. My UPS was out of order for a while as well.

So, is this a result of power fluctuation, whereby the monitor has been taking unexpected jolts?

Is there a port problem, maybe?

What is the approximate life of a monitor?

Any comments/suggestions/views will be appreciated. Thanks for your time!

the approximate life of monitor depend s upon the usage of the monitor
for mine i am using the Santron monitor from last 2 years and no problema at all till now

Aprox how hrs u were using u r monitor???

I used around 3-4hrs and it last for around 4yrs.....

i think u change the CRT or better to dump u r existing monitor and go for new...

Sell off that monitor at the earliest. I had a similar problem, but luckily, I was able to sell it off. I sold it and the next day it went kaput I had a similar problem. It had lost its brighness.

I happen to use my PC for about 3 hrs, daily. Not at a stretch but with a lot many gaps in between.

Yeah, I've been musing with the idea of selling it off as well, for a while. I think that's the best option instead of letting my eyes suffer(as a result). Any idea of any replacement offers that some companies might be offering? Or is just dumping it off, for the price of scrap, the best way to go about it?

Any recommendations on a good 15" monitor with their costs? I think LG and Samsung have good quality monitors at reasonable prices; am I right?

HEY DUDE trust me if u are planning to buy a new monitor donot go for acer as recommended by DIGIT instead go for LG FLATRON E700SH a great performer at 8200 only.

I would suggest go for a 17" Samsung. Unless you are going for the thin LCD ones, don't take anything less than 17" now. They are pretty much the standard and price difference with 15" is hardly anything.

Go for LG. nice ergonomics.
i use a 17" samsung but lacks in looks.

philips is cool in looks but it has only 6% market share. u know why? LG and Samsung rules. I m talkin only abt CRT segment

Well within my budget, that one. It looks neat.

Haven't seen an LG one, yet. Planning to visit Lamington Road this weekend. Maybe, I'll get some bargains too... see if I can get my existing monitor changed.
