Default Spybot Search & Destroy Problem

I have installed the Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 on my Windows XP SP2 system. The problem is , S&D starts and when the scan starts it scan for a few seconds and then freezes or hangs.

Any solution to resolve this issue will be highly appriciated.

Please help!

Do mention your ram size and what the task manager says when the scan is going on (Wheter the program is 'running' or 'not responding').

Also check in the statusbar of the SSD if the scan is in progress or not.

some hints in running any anti-spyware of antivirus softwares:
1) Try not to run them when other memory hogging programs are running
2) Try disabling or closing any programs residing in the memory

Open Spybot, then leave it alone
Open Task Manager, and go to the Processes tab
Right-click on SpybotSD.exe, and choose "Set Affinity..."
On the box that comes up, check/uncheck boxes so that ONLY "CPU 0" is checked.
Go back to the already-open Spybot, and run a scan. It should complete without hanging or losing responsiveness.

Thanks a lot guys, this trick did work out fine. "Set Affinity..."

I have an Inter Pentium 4 with HT and that's were the problem was !!!
The second core of the Processor is not compatible with S&D .

Only one CPU is enough to run it. Good Work there guys, I never new about this.

@ anandk : the "Set Affinity..." thing is available with Windows XP and when you are running dual core processor or Pentium class processor with HT enabled in the bios.
