Awwww i sympathise with u!
Ur PC's fine IIS too is fine! U didnt need to install the hell 5 times!
U R getting password prompt bcoz ur using firefox or opera probably -> use IE6 !
Since ur using a microsoft product u should test it on another microsoft product coz IIS and IE6 are both microsoft's ****!

Just to be accurate, it is IIS 5.1, not 5 and html files r working fine, just d ASP ones r'nt.
Now, i was using IE6 itself.
i.e. why its such a pain in d *** problem.

I'm doing all this to get my ASP.net s*** up and runnin. I googled dis also n checked dat dis cud be caused by prior installation of Visual studio and Visual .NET framework.
WHAT D HELL IS GOING ON??????

hmm...terrible
U did 5 install can do another?
Try to do a clean install this time!
Remove the IIS and then do a clean install!
If u dont know how to clean install then google a bit!

Maybe u cud try this ...

Goto "Internet Information Service" > "Default Web Site" > right click > "Properties" > "Directory Security" tab > click on "Edit" button of "Anonymous Access and authentication control" > check "Anonymous Access" > click on "Edit" > Uncheck "Allow IIS to control Password"

Restart IIS
