Default system sounds

A few days back the start windows and exit windows and some othe system sounds just disappeared . In sounds and audio devices properties , these are still present , ie the sounds are activated , but they dont play when starting or exiting windows. Just cant figure out why since its already active , why isnt it playing ?[/img]

May be those Wav files hv been deleted?
Check that if they r still present in %system_drive%\Windows\Media folder?

U can also try to change those sounds to some other wav files...

Check for the sound file entry integrity in the "Sounds and audio devices" properties. That is, check to see if the entry for startup/shutdown is selected and pointing to a valid sound file.

Try reverting to the default sound scheme.

If u have installed a new software, try uninstalling it and then restarting the pc. It would be faster to use system restore points if u had used them.

If on XP, u can try tip no. 211 from here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
