Default Copying slows down system

while copying anything from the CD or DVD, my computer slows down heavily. It started happening after i recently formatted my computer. I have P4 1.9GHz, 1GB RAM, Win XP Home Edition with SP2, ZAP, NAV 2005, LG Combo Drive. Like while listening to songs, they become very very slow. Any suggestions r fix for the problem???

Try turning on DMA. Right click my computer->manage.
Go to device manager. double click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. double click primary IDE channel. go to the advanced tab. Select the transfer mode as "DMA if available for both device0 and device1. Repeat the steps for secondary IDE channel.

@----Q---M

Direct Memory Access/Addressing. A method of transferring data from one memory area to another without having to go through the central processing unit.

Direct Memory Access channels are similar to IRQs. DMA channels allow hardware devices (like sound cards or keyboards) to access the main memory without involving the CPU. This frees up CPU resources for other tasks. As with IRQs, it is vital that you do not double up devices on a single line. Plug and Play devices will take care of this for you.

@saurav_cheeta

His config is more than sufficient to handle the NAV scaning.
