hi,

i have a 256 kbps airtel conx. i use it 24*7. but i see an unusual behavior off late. when i keep my computer idle for long period of time, say when i go to bed, it gets disconnected. i installed my version of windows 2 days back only. i have changed my power settings also. but i find this problem whenever i install a fresh copy of windows for some period of time and it gets solved automatically or i do something not aware of... pls help me fix this. thk u.

Try to use PING...
Open Comand Prompt, type Ping -t <any site name>...
It'll solve the problem.
U can use Server IP address in stead of <any site name>.
To know Server IP addres, double-click on the Net icon in system tray, and in Details tab u can see it.

Yea, I guess he meant to use ping as a keep-alive kinda signal. -t means to ping until terminated. But I am not sure a lot of websites would like to be pinged a few times a second.

well ping can tell u connection is alive or not. it may seem to be disconnected to u but it still may be able to make data transfers, though may be small.

checkout with the ISP whether they have some idle time or not? same is the case of a reliance connection where idle time is very low makin it disconnected lots of times.

airtel with 256 kbps -- go to the connection setting of airtel --- if u have(like bsnl) ... and unchek the option or increase the time limit...

"Disconnect if idle for __ mins" in windows 98

go to properties and then option for XP
"Idle time before hanging up" in windows Xp

It's probably some app or update that u install that solves this issue after every reinstall.
