Default Https funda

Hey,
I would appreciate if u help me out.
How https works (apart from it's rfc and its definition of http+ssl) and how resume of downloads is supported in https, if that is possible? Does it use the "Range:" header as http1.1 too?

Ok, let me refine my question more.

I read that "MAC-info" header is used to provide message authentication to the client. This calculation involves the message bits and other things.
If anyone has worked with security and crypto, then can you tell me if the message bits considered for this mac calculation be according to the range of bytes specified by the client in the "range:" header? Or am i wrong fundamentally somewhere?
Any resourse pointed out would be great.

Thanks for those links, saroman. I guess it would be better to get it answered by a person than a document (as I aven't found one in google).
