computer not starting no beep

when i switch pc i see hard disk light blink and power supply light comes.
but did not hear any beep of computer.

my computer didnt start

i saw somewhere that if none Beeps is there then
Power Supply or System Board failure may be there

what is that

i have opened computer and tight all card memory in my computer to see that nothing is loose
then computer worked

now again after 2 days it stopped

i once agian open case and tight all card memory in my computer and it started

why this happens

i have pentium 166 mhz 1997 computer .i have award modular bios 4.51 version bios

it is giving problem from 10 days only

Power Supply --> SMPS
System Board --> Motherboard

A beep indicates succesfull POST, so If it doesnt beep, check whether the fan on the smps is on ?
SMPS may have a problem.
Most of all just check whether ur computer is pugged in and the switch is on, esp if u have a stabilizer and no UPS the residual power may just blink the lights on, ofcourse the computer will not start , no its not funny , this has happened.

yes fan is running yes both fans.
and computer runs sometimes

if SMPS has problem then light is coming in computer fan is running cd rom and hard disk is running then what to do if smps has problem

i can call computer person but i think they may not come to place soon because of flooding all over

hmm looks like problem with RAM, i had faced same problem few days back and later I found that one of my momory stick was gone...

check with hardware guy and see what he can do..

my suggestion before calling hardware guy: try removing your memory sticks and fitting then again..

if that doesnt work then....if you have 2 sticks on mobo then try removing one of them and try to run the pc on one RAM, cross check the same by interchanging both the sticks..

Ive helped one of my friends previously with a similair problem. His motherboard was fried though...

Usually it ends up to be a problem with your motherboard , SMPS or RAM.

actually vendor told all new motherboards that supports high cpu has only
1 IDE port so u can connect only 2 old drives that u have

U can get an Asus A8N-E with Amd64 3200+, 1G ram and a decent video card like 6600gt or 6800 according to your budget.

There are two ide ports on the latest mobos, but one is the hdd port and other is the cdrom port. You can always connect hdd and cdrom drives in the others' port too. You might lose some bandwidth from the hdd, but you can connect them atleast.

To conect more ide devices, you can buy yourselves an pci ide card that has two extra ide ports. Or, you could buy urselves an external hdd casing and attach hds via usb.

I ran need for speed underground 1 on this pc
frame rate was ok in normal settings i think they where 20 frames per sec

if i add graphics card how much frame rate will go

please tell me graphics card in range of 3000 to 7000 rs

The price that you paid seems pretty reasonable. However i would recommend against going in for a FX 5700 for Rs. 6000, as u can get a Geforce 6600 for about the same price. With a 6600 you will get much better image quality then right now.
