Default Assembling a 10k rig

I've been asked to assemble a rig within 10k. It is mainly going to be used for the foll purposes

1. Surfing (lots of it)
2. Word Processing (an occsional letter or document)
3. proxy server
4. occasional movie
5. CD writing operations (occasional)
6. Absolutely no gaming
Basically an ultra glorified typewriter

I plan to install the following swz

1. Win2k (if possible) or at least Win ME
2. Skype
3. Avast Antivirus
4. Nero
5. Either Office XP or Star Office or Open Office
6. Winamp (2.x if need be)

Keeping thes factors in mind I am thinking of building a system around Mercury's PVCLE266M-L Mobo

Heres the spec I have in mind for the rig

1. Mercury PVCLE266M-L
2. 80 GB HDD(Seagate Samsung)
3. 512 MB RAM
4. BenQ CD writer
5. USB Floppy Drive (specifically asked for)
6. Generic Keyboard and Mouse (or maybe Microtek or Mercury, budget permitting)
7. 15' Monitor
8. A decent enough cabinet (Intex or 'i' brand)
9. a 2.1 dabba with the balance amount

Do you think that the specs that I just mentioned will be able to handle the SWz that I plan to run on it and also is it possible to build the rig for under 10k with thw specs i mentioned (only the HW not the SW)

Why assemble when you can buy it off the shelf??

http://www.xenitisgroup.com/

This one comes with 1 year service warranty, and from a ISO 9001 certified organization.

For your config, you should look at used parts if you want to stay below 10K.

For 10K you want to use win200 on it? Which alone costs 10K????

You need to look at stuff from 5 years ago. All these cheap PC's they are coming out with dont run windows, they are linux. I was running XP on a 500 and 866MHZ P3 with 512meg ram and it does ru even office. Its slow but... You did get to burn CD's. You might have trouble burning cd's with some cheap computers.

For 11,000 you get, as you can see, 128meg instead of 512, 40 gig instead of 80, cd reader instead of writer...

Configuration
Celeron 2.4 GHZ
845 Intel Chipset Motherboard
128 MB DDR RAM
40 GB HDD
52x CD-ROM
1.44 MB FDD
15 Color Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
Red hat Enterprise Linux 3 Prof. Workstation
(Includes 9 CDs with OS, Open Office Productivity Suite, Evolution Mail Client, Browsers, Games, Documentation, Database) – Complete Desktop
Mail to: xenitis@xenitisgroup.com for enquary

You can use the box the monitor came in as a cabinet and since you would be using it as an embedded system anyway, you could actually stick it under the kitchen sink in the cabinet as well.

And to think NASA pays zillions for a setup like this to run the space shuttle.

the PC launched by HCL will be for sure slow for all the needs that the thread starter has ...
Consider the offer by http://www.xenitisgroup.com/ for the celeron D 2.4 Ghz, which will cost around Rs 11K...
