Default Is there any harm??

Hi,

I have ASUS Mobo A7V266-MX which supports only 266 Mhz RAM. Recently I added up a PC2700 i.e 333Mhz RAM to my system. But still it is working (i suppose in 266 Mhz Mode) Is it normal for a RAM to work at lower clock speeds the what it is made to work on?? Will the RAM work fine?? Please reply with ur suggestions soon.

Thanks
Krish

There's no harm. The only thing is that your RAM is not working at its full potential.

no harm unless the latencies mismatch

There is actually a difference. IF your mother board can take advantage of it, the faster ram will work faster. Yes the MHZ rating is necessary but there is a lot more to RAM than just MHZ. The faster RAM has lower latency rating at slower speeds so it will run faster. Not very much, but you will notice it in benchmarks. EG my 400MHZ DDR is about 5% faster than my 266MHZ DDR.

Thanks a lot for ur replies.

I wanted to ask one more thing, on a mobo which supports a max. of 266MHz RAM, If I use a 333Mhz RAM too then which one will perform better, 266 one or the 333one??

Thanks
Krish

I think is there is no much diff among these two ....Both of the memory will work at same 266Mhz..speed. Performance diff will be unnoticeable...
