Default pen drive shows less capacity...


recently bought a iBall 256MB pendrive,but windows shows only 240MB free space,y is this? nowhere on the box was written that the space may b less than wats said.

I think this is beacuse when advertizing their products, manufacturers use 1000KB = 1MB rather than 1024KB = 1MB. Hence, the actual capacity is lesser than advertized.

agree with what nemesis said,also some amount of space is also taken up by the file system(FAT/FAT32/NTFS).
