Preview under "Details" cannot be seen :(
Hello There!
Using Windows XP,sp 2. U must h seen the "Details" Box a the left side.
The problem is I am unable to preview any kind of file here. It started after I used GameXp from June 05 DVD. I rolled back using the corresponding option from GameXp, but to no effect.
AnyIdeas?

Hey, - go to Tools > Folder Options
- in the window that opens up, select "Use Windows classic folders" under the Tasks tab
- click apply...wait for it to get done
- now select the "Show common tasks in folders", which was the default selection, and click Ok
This should solve the problem. Also, just clicking on the "Restore Defaults" button might also do the job but i ain't sure therefore the long way. I haven't faced this problem before but sometimes my logical guesses just work . Do let me know if it doesn't.

Gosh, you are still waiting for a reply! I mean, I wouldn't have. Whenever something *major* bugs me and i can't find a solution within 30 mins. on google/forums, i just reimage the system - the quickest and easiest of all solutions. Restoring an image takes just around 15 mins. on my laptop and i have a perfectly working windows w/ office, photoshop and other basic stuff. Even if your last image doesn't contain some recently installed software, which didn't cause the problem, you can install that in another 15 mins. I hope you got my point.
I advise everybody to invest in a good imaging software like Norton Ghost or Partition Magic and start using images. Believe me, hard disk imaging would be the best thing you'd ever do......aah, stretched it a bit too far but that goes with such an awesome technology. Although it's a pretty old technology, people are still ignorant about it.
Note: I haven't mentioned Windows XP's System Restore because not everybody uses Win XP (Linux is da flavor nowadays). Besides, System Restore doesn't solve the problem most of the time, especially when it's a driver/system files issue.

one ques:
is it that you cant see the "details" box itself ..
or you can see the details box but can't see thumbnail of any media file but gives details of other files ?
or the box simply doesnt give any details of any files whatsoever ?

ohhk ... then its easy !
This page's content allows you correct this for jpg files.
http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,36585,00.asp
to fix the same for avi
either downoad this file : http://www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk/getfi...id=winxpavifix
and ask it enable previews
or create following registry entries
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D9 4-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shel lex\PropertyHandler
create a "default" dword having a value "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"
different file types have different values ..
i cant really help you to get all those values..
you can take a look at your friend's comp to check the values.
you need to check on "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAs
sociations\<filetype>" for the default values
i hope this info helps
