Default SATA HDD identifiaction mark????

HI,
CAN ANYONE PLS GUIDE ME TO DISTIGUISH BETWEEN NORMAL ATA (PATA) AND SATA HDD. AS AM ON TO SATA HDD, I HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT I AM REALLY GETTING SATA.

AS PER I KNOW, SATA HAS SERIAL CABLE INTERFACE. IS THIS CLEARLY SEEN BEHIND THE HDD OR THAT IT HAS BOTH SERIAL AND PARALLEL INTERFACE AT ITS BACK.

HLP TO SORT THIS OUT.

AKEN

A SATA HDD won't have both SATA and PATA connectors. It will clearly be written on the HDD whether it is SATA or not. Or look up the model no. on the internet to make sure.

PATA has the charactesitic 40 or so pins and also a 4pin molex power connector.
A SATA doesn't have both these pins sticking out. It's connectors are rather small and thin.
And, ofcourse, the label will clearly read "SATA" hd.
