Default Are those files starting with $ necessary

I have a p3 with 192mb ram and a 10gb hdd running win Xp I recently installed sp2 and my C drive (win xp drive) now has only 300mb of free space. I searched in the Windows directory and found about 30 folders occupying 400MB starting with $ like $NtUninstallKB873339$ ... are these files necessary if i wont uninstall service pack 2... if no please tell me how to get rid of them ...... Can I simply delete them

As far as I know they are un-install files for the hot-fixes which you download from Microsot. You can safely delete those IF you dont want to un-install any of the hot-fixes you have downloaded & installed so far.
