Default SOS Recycle Bin missing !!!

I boot up my rig one day and to my utmost horror I found that the recylce bin icon was missing from my windows explorer window. I have Windows 2000 with sp3.
I first went to the folders option and deselected the option of viewing system protected filez. Sure enough the bin was there and I was able to delete filez from there. However, I want it the way it was the way it was before with the icon in the windows explorer window without deselcting the above mentioned option. I had not used any 3p tweaking sw, so can anybody also tell me what it is that I did to suffer such a fate.

That'd be better since u have the icon located elsewhere, just right click and create a shortcut and drag it to the Desktop.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel
4. In the right pane, right-click the following registry DWORD value, and then click Modify:
{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
5. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

By doing what you have said, will I get the recycle bin on my desktop or in my windows explorer window?

Start -> Run, type regedit, goto:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

Right-click on NameSpace key and select New -> Key and give the name {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} to this key.
Now Recycle Bin should be visible in Windows Explorer.
SIMPLE...
