When MSI designed this mobo they didn't know about the physical dimensions of the 7800GTX.
Maybe MSI comes up with their own implementation of the 7800GTX chipset that fits in their mobo.

well mobo are bought considering future in mind may be today a7800 is expensive tomorro its cheap so u can alwasy work in sli in stead of buying a512 mb card so its worth having options open also ya it seem more like a technical problem but most of the companys know what the dimension of a new card will be like they are the fisrt people to know about it much before card is release d also its asame that they will replace the board for us customers free of coast while the indian customers are left stranded with that board for the sli technology other wise they could have gone with a simle bord without sli
