Default Partition merge-ing ! ! !

i have winxp sp2 with 80 gb hdd ... partition of c,d,e (10,10,60 gb) ...

wanna merge 1st 2 partitions (10,10) ... as i have installed many softwares on c drive, it is left with very little space ... due 2 which my comp. is running slow ...

have also moved my data on d drive (10 gb) onto my e drive (60 gb)...

now that my 2nd partition is empty, how can i merge these 2 partitions ???

& is it advise-able 2 keep c drive, 20 gb ???

& will my 3rd partition (60 gb) b also affected after re-merging of previous 2 ???

Hi,
You have to use third party softwares like Partition Magic, Disk Director. 7 Tools or Paragon Partition Manager, to merge partitions. There would not be any problems with merging partitions using these softwares, as they will redirect all the refereces/paths to the changed/merged partitions automatically.

There is one freeware called Ranish Partition Manager, but be careful while using it. ( it's not as user friendly as other commercial softwares )

No, you can not use Windows CD to merge partitions.

Yes!
1.) I hv my C: partition of size 4 GB only. Basically it depends upon ur requirements. If u think that u need 20 GB then u can merge both of them without ne worry. 1 thing more if u think that ur C: partition is not big enough for installing s/w, then u can install the s/w on D: drive, no problem will ocuur. So in this case u'll not need to merge both of them.

2.) When u'll merge both 1st & 2nd partitions, the 3rd partition "E:" will become "D:", no other changes.
