I think it's time for you to implement what you have learned. The more you work on it the better your skills will improve. Once you are through with your basics (HTML) you should go for dynamic pages like php,asp etc
and don't forget scripting language like javascript
..:: peace ::..

hmm read books...

i would recommends books like Web Standards Solution (Basic users) and Zen of css garden (Advanced CSS users)

checkout sites like www.stylegala.com http://www.mezzoblue.com/ www.csszengarden.com

i would suggest rather than leaving scritping laguages, for web designer first understanding designing concepts and html/xhtml knowledge should be clear...

should be able to make different layoues using different techniques in photoshop, css etc....

For designing a web-site, you need at least 2 persons.

First, the designer. He decides on the look and feel of the site. How it will look. Basically, he designs the interface. This fellow needs to learn Photoshop/Coreldraw/GIMP.

The second person is the coder. He need to sit and implement the design. He needs to write the code i.e. HTML, PHP, ASP, Javascript, etc.

Someone can know both the skills. But in my opinion both are specialised jobs. Decide which one you are more interested in and follow that path.
