Default system shutdown, overheating

hi,

i hav intel 865 chipset original, p4 2.4ghz and 512 ddr ram with 400 watts SMPS. i have faced this problem the first time in 10 yrs. i run my system 24*7. it suddenly shut down my system and wouldnt start. after sometime, it started and gave a note "temperature overshooting, was shut to prevent damage, service the desired part soon.. but i have intel active monitor installed and was showing perfectly normal temperatures... is it the hardisk which should have gone overshooting? i touched it and felt the same warmth it would be.. pls help me...

/legolas.
